Japanese lacquered ware URUSHI, is called 'japan'.

 

Urushi ; 'japan' is the representative art and crafts of Japan, as Chinese pottery, 'china' is.

 

Urushi has been belived to have preservative and moth repellent effects, in fact, reserchers found evidence that Urushi has stronger effects than the materials such as plastics.

 

The result of comparative experiment shows that E coli attached to tableware will mostly die within 24hours if the tableware is made from Urushi.

 

 

 

 

Wajima nuri

 

Wajima lacquer wares that have been 5,000 years tradition, 

is the representative art and crafts of Japan.

 

On the wood base, a lacquer clothing and powder called 'Wajima jinoko' is applied.

Then, go through more than 120 processes of layers of coating and high quality coating by 6 to 7 divisions of labor with masterly work.

 

Urushi other than Wajima is also

hand-finished by high quality workmanship of Wajima.

 

Making Wajima-nuri requeires refined skills and years of experience, so it is impossible for other to copy it.

The city of the lacquer

 

The process of applying the lacquer is the most clmplex and there are many as 124 steps.

 

Wajima-nuri is the atr of applying lacquer onto various wares, such as soup bowls, cups, plates, chopsticks, jewelry boxes, tables, funiture and etc.

 

It originated in Wajima city, Ishikawa prefecture.

 

Only natural Urushi lacquer and wood are used to produce the wares.
